This regional event for physicians, clinicians, nurses, allied professionals, residents and students is hosted by the Brown University Global Health Initiative
and Hasbro Children’s Hospital. The conference will include a keynote address, lectures, panel discussions, and breakout sessions centered on significant
pediatric global health issues including: building and sustaining international partnerships, millennium development goals, and the art of medicine
in developing countries, with many of the breakout sessions focused specifically on Haiti.
Hasbro Children’s Hospital is part of the St. Damien Collaborative to improve Pediatrics in Haiti, a new consortium of six US based Children’s Hospitals
dedicated to building capacity for pediatric care in Haiti at St. Damien Hospital for sick children. St. Damien is the premier pediatric hospital in Haiti,
providing services free of charge, and is funded through donations from benefactors all over the world, primarily in Europe and the United States..
At the conclusion of this session, attendees should be able to:
_Recognize the imbalances in global partnerships and describe ways in which to overcome barriers and create equitable solutions
_Examine the human resource needs for health and how they relate to global health, medicine, public health, health systems, and country competitiveness
_Describe successful and long term programs and identify the best practices of successful global partnerships
_Discuss recent successful projects at St. Damien Hospital
_Explore cultural competency in the context of Traditional Folk remedies in treatment of children in Haiti
*Conference registration fee includes breakfast, lunch, access to an online syllabus, and complimentary parking.
